Leya

Leya, or Sharifah Aleya Syed Zainal Rashid alYahya, is no stranger to the entertainment industry. Beginning her career as a host for a TV show for teens at 14, then appearing in a skin care commercial, led her to a stint as an ambassador for a cosmetics brand. At 18 her career in acting was launched which produced numerous nominations and won her two awards. She also hosted TV shows like Chicky Hour and the first season of Malaysian Idol.

In 2006, she kickstarted her radio journey, spending 11 years on air before leaving to pursue a career in content creation and public relations. Six years after leaving radio, she is making her return.

Leya is of Arab, Malay, Chinese and Bengali-Pakistani descent. She breaks into song at a whim – it might be from any genre, ranging from traditional Malay, rock & roll, songs from musicals and Hindi films! She is a mother to her four children, three sisters and their little ones; loves to bake; is surprisingly good at snooker or pool; tends to play devil’s advocate in work situations and is the peacemaker in family situations.
